HISTORY OF SAMAYAPURA MARIAMMAN TANJUNG RAMBUTAN
TEMPLE - Milestone:
1910 - Efforts by the late Mr.Vishvanathan Pillai, Mr. SellaThandal and Mr.Karuppa Pillai was fruitful when the British who ruled Malaya, awarded 2 1/2 acres land for building a temple on the present land and another 9 1/4 acres land for cemetery for the Hindu community in Tanjung Rambutan.
1913 - Dr. Govindasamy built an Edumpan temple on the temple land.
1918 - Few bags of soil from Samayapuram, in Tiruchi district of Tamil Nadu, India were brought by the late Mr. Balasingam, and the construction of the new temple started. The temple was later named as SAMAPURA MAHA MARIAMMAN KOVIL.
1951 - The temple was officially registered with Perak state government. The registration number is 456/PK. The registration done by the late Mr. Balasingam, Mr. V.Matahvan, Mr. Namachivayam and the rest of the 1951 temple committee members.
1962 - Temple was rebuilt and renovated under the leadership of late Mr. S.V. Suppiah and his committee members.
1972 - Proposal for temple's wedding hall was put forward by the late Mr. Vishwanathan and thus, the fund raising campaign was launched.
1974 - The front look of the temple was renovated and completed. Kumbabishegam ceremony was performed by Mr. Gunasegaran and the pro temple committee.
1977 - Under the patronage of Mr. V.Ramasamy and his pro tem committe, they managed to raise funds for the wedding hall building.
1978 - The late Mr. P. Mayilvaganam and his pro tem commitee started work on building the proposed wedding hall. The ground breaking ceremony was completed by the late Arulmamani Thavathiru N.D.S. Arumugam Pillai AMN from Penang.
1980 - Under the leadership of late Mr. Govindarajoo, the work of building wedding hall was almost completed. The sudden death of Mr. Govindarajoo on 31.08.1980 was halted for time being.
Then the late Mr. R. Singaram took over the leadership and managed to complete the remaining construction works. The wedding hall building was completed.
13.03.1982 - The temple's wedding hall was officiated by the former Minister for Works and present MIC president Dato Seri Dr. S. Samy Vellu.
1983 - Dining Hall and Cemetery burial ceremonial shed was completed and the outstanding payments for wedding hall by Mr. V. Ramasamy and commitee was settled.
Mr. V. Ramasamy and his committee were re-elected and they lead the temple administration the following year.
11-12-1994 - Palasthabanam ceremony completed.
06-01-1995, 07-01-1995, 08-01-1995 - Sri Durga lakshmi Oamam prayers were performed.
07-02-1995 - The old temple was demolished.
29-10-1995 - Ground Breaking ceremony for the new temple building was completed by Dato Seri Dr. S. Samy Vellu.
19-06-1995 - Sri Ganesh and Sri Murugan's mini temples were built.
05-12-1997 - Raja Gopuram Groud Breaking ceremony took place.
11-03-1998 - Tirumurthigal completed.
07-07-2000 - Kumbabhisegam ceremony.
24-08-2000 - Mandala abishegam prayers completed.
2005 - During the AGM, it was decided by the temple members and the commitee members under the leadership of Mr. Murugiah Subramaniam to build the Sri Saiva Muniswarar temple on the left hand side of the temple's main entrance.
31-08-2006 - The Sri Saiva Muniswarar temple works completed. The Kumbabishegam ceremony was performed by Mr. Murugiah Subramaniam and rest of the committe members.
25-07-2008, 26-07-2008, 27-07-2008 - The grand Sandi Omam Prayers were held. The organising temple committe brought a cow , a horse and an elephant to complete the prayers.
